Wrocław has a very complex history. Over the last 1000 years it has belonged to different nations and been governed by different monarchs. Without doubt the most significant change to the status of the city was at the end of World War II 1945 when the German city of Breslau became the Polish city of Wrocław. This resulted in many displaced citizens and new beginnings for those who returned.

As the city rose from the ashes, the new residents decided which parts of Breslau would be saved and which should be rebuilt. During your tour, you will discover how much of old Breslau remains in contemporary Wrocław and you will see archive photos taken before and after the War documenting the changes. As we do, you may appreciate just how lucky we are that today we can see and experience the city in all its beautiful splendor.

  • Visit the most important places in the city centre and learn more about its specific history
  • Visit Salt Square, the Market Square, the Church of St. Elisabeth, the University of Wrocław, the Ossolineum, panoramic view of the Cathedral Island.
  • See archive photos and compare them to present-day places
  • Follow the signs and learn more about German history of the city
