Wrocław has a very complex history. Over the last 1000 years it has belonged to different nations and been governed by different monarchs. Without doubt the most significant change to the status of the city was at the end of World War II 1945 when the German city of Breslau became the Polish city of Wrocław. This resulted in many displaced citizens and new beginnings for those who returned.

As the city rose from the ashes, the new residents decided which parts of Breslau would be saved and which should be rebuilt. During your tour, you will discover how much of old Breslau remains in contemporary Wrocław and you will see archive photos taken before and after the War documenting the changes. As we do, you may appreciate just how lucky we are that today we can see and experience the city in all its beautiful splendor.

One of the main reasons why Wrocław has grown so quickly over the centuries is because of the perfect location of the city. In medieval times, two very important trade routes crossed here – the Amber Road and the Via Regia (Royal Highway). Merchants constantly visited the city to sell their products, bringing their habits and culture with them. At the same time, the citizens of Wroclaw were becoming richer and consequently built a trade area within the city centre called the ‘Temple of Trade’.

During this tour you will admire the oldest department store in Wroclaw – the Barasch Brothers’ and see how the building has changed within last century.
You will visit the alley known as ‘The Shambles’ (Jatki), where you will experience the area’s special medieval and artistic atmosphere. We will finish our tour at the famous market square, where your guide will advise you on the most unique Polish souvenirs to take home. Last but not least, as our guest you will receive a discount for some specially chosen local products.

This tour is also available in Italian.
